The Scorpion

So last night, I pulled into the garage after work. I had just picked up my boys from Karen's house. Her boys had been watching my boys since Mike was gone last night.

As I pulled in, there was a huge SCORPION on the wall of the garage (right about to go into our house). I freaked out. I called Karen and asked if she could lend me her husband for a few minutes. She said, "I'll come over, I have no fear." Can I just say, that is a true friend? Someone that will drive over to your house at 9:30 at night to kill your scorpion. WOW!

She buzzed right over and got out Mike's shoe and tried to smash it. I watched it start to hurry away. I screamed, she was caught off guard and the SCORPION got away. He ran off into the garage somewhere. We could see him no more.

Thanks anyways, Karen, I'm hoping we at least scared him away. I spent the night in my bed (no, I did not even get out of bed to pee and that's a toughy when you are pregnant. I wore flip-flops around the house all morning just in case).  I think it is safe to say that he spent the night in the garage.

I have to say one thing, I will not miss that scorpion when he goes to heaven!

Serious Conversations

So last night, I had a lot of explaining to do to Daven. And not about the usual day-to-day things. Around bedtime, he started asking me lots of questions about dying and going to heaven. We talked for like 15 minutes about it. He almost made me cry. I kept thinking, Mike, I need you to help fill in the gaps, but Mike had to work late last night, so I just did my best. I think he was a little afraid of the whole thing, so I tried to make it all seem okay.

It all started when there was a fly in our house. Daven is terrified of flies (and all bugs). Hmm, wonder where he gets that from?

I kept trying to get him to go in the kitchen to throw away his sucker and wash his hands before bed. Logan was sound asleep on my lap, so I didn't want to move just yet.  Daven was TERRIFIED because of the fly. "What if it gets me?"

Then, he started asking all kinds of questions about flies. Like, "do bugs live for a long time?" "Is the fly dead?"

In desperation, I told him, the fly is sleeping. Daven kept probing like, "Will he be dead in the morning?" And to make him feel better, I said, "Probably." Woops!

Daven got all sad and said, "I am really going to miss that fly when he goes to Heaven."

I shouldn't have, but I thought, hmmm this is a teaching opportunity. I told him, well, Heavenly Father loves even the flies. You will get to see Him in Heaven.

That sparked the whole thing!  He asked, "When I die will I go to Heaven?"

I told him, "Yes."

He just started to sob. Seriously, tears started coming down his little cheeks. This is what he said, "Well, I don't want to die because I would really miss my LEGOS."

So, then we talked a lot about how Heaven is such a happy place. I told him that I bet they have lots of Legos there. He didn't believe me at first. But, I just can't imagine Heaven not having lots of fun toys for the kids to play with. Finally, after lots of convincing he felt a little better. He asked, "Do you think they have Police Headquarters LEGOS in Heaven."

I told him "Of Course." That made him feel a lot better.

That was a toughy. And, I just wish we had more preparation as moms for those converstations, but they always seem to come out of nowhere. I just kept hoping I said all the right things. He had so many questions.

But, what made me laugh was that, he is not going to miss us in Heaven, just his LEGOS.

Jail

I just had to post this.

On Monday, I was working in the yard. I was spraying off the pool deck and the boys were playing behind the pool fence. There were fighting and bugging each other. I decided to let them try to work it out themselves while I finished cleaning up.

After about 5 minutes, Logan just started crying HYSTERICALLY. Crying and crying. I went over to him and said,
"What is wrong, why are you crying." He replied with tears:

"Daven put me in jail.....and then.....and then......Daven put me in another one jail."

I thought, oh that sounds so miserable. But, it just made me laugh. Daven is really into jail lately. Mike says it is a guy thing. But, poor Logan always has to be the bad guy. To be honest with you, I wouldn't want to be the bad guy either.

The Reception

These pictures are in a random order. The reception was beautiful....on a golf course that overlooks the Salt Lake Valley. It was gorgeous. There was great food (although, I had very little time to even eat). There was also a floor for dancing.

I wish I had pictures of all the people that I got to see & talk to. Most of them, I hadn't seen since my wedding...people from our old neighborhood. It was wonderful to catch up. The night went by so fast.

The picture above was sent to me by our old neighbors, the Himstreets. They stayed the whole night taking pictures. I was glad they sent it to me. I didn't get one of me and my dad. This was after the reception was over. I literally couldn't move. My whole body ached. I just gave everyone assignments on what to do to help clean up. Then, we went home and crashed. What a great day!!!

When we got home, Logan asked: "Where's Erica?" I explained that since she got married today, she got to go on a little trip and stay at a hotel. He then asked so sweetly, "Can I go see her?" Mike and I chuckled and thought, I'm sure she would love to see you right now.
I am supposed to be wearing these pink shoes, sorry, sis. I wore them for the pictures & then hid them behind some furniture for the rest of the night. My toes got stepped on once. But I just couldn't keep these babies on, regardless of how cute they were.
Here are the bridesmaid's. Nick's sisters, Erica's best friend, April, and me. Erica's colors were so cute. Pink & Brown. The weather was gorgeous, too. It was around 80 degrees that day and then cooled off a bit that night. Sunny, no clouds. Perfect!
Erica got so many compliments on the cake. Isn't it so cute? Logan kept asking me for a piece all night. I finally told him they were looking for a knife to cut it. Surprisingly, that satisfied him. But, he devoured his piece! After the cake, he was in a good mood and forgot about how much he hated wearing his pink tie. He started to enjoy himself for the last hour of the reception.
I had to put this in here. It is blurry. But, Daven owned the dance floor. At the end of the night, he was dancing and dancing. He didn't want to stop. They had a live band and he was getting into it. He has some great moves. Everyone was getting the biggest kick out of him, even the band! Daven is like his Aunt Erica......always the life of the party!!

The Temple

Horray! Congratulations, Erica & Nick. We are so excited for both of you!

Perhaps one of the greatest tributes to Erica, is how much my boys adore her. As she came out of the temple, they had to wait in line for a few minutes, but then they both DOVE into her arms.
This is my shy little Logan. But, he wanted to give Erica a big hug no matter how many cameras were on him. I just want to squeeze him, too. Those suspenders are too cute.
And, just as much as they love Aunt Erica, they love their new Uncle Nick, too. They talk about him now as Uncle Nick, which is so fun.

Look at those well-dressed boys. So, Daven's favorite color was pink for a while. You can only imagine how excited he was to wear this pink tie. Logan, not so much. We had to prepare him for like 2 days straight to gear him up for it. Not to mention he hates church pants in addition to his boycott on denim. Mike's sister, Michelle, was the one that had to dress him. She had to bribe him with candy and even then, the tie was too much. He kept taking it off every chance he could all day long. Gotta love 'em.
Four Generations: My Grandma Hatch, Mom, Erica, Me & Baby. This is a terrible shot of me but I had to put it in for historical purposes.
Just can't get enough. Daven was smitten watching his Aunt Erica. He cried when we had to leave the temple. He probably could have followed her around for a few more hours. But, the payoff came a few days later when he came up to me grinning, saying, "who am I going to marry?"
Logan just wanted out of there. No smiling for pictures. Luckily, my sweet Aunt Joyce took him for a walk to look at cars. I think he just wanted to get out of that pink tie! After this, we headed back to my mom's house to eat something and rest for a few minutes before heading back to Bountiful for the reception at Eaglewood Golf Course.

Preparing for Erica's Big Day!

We got to Utah a few days before the wedding. I have to admit I wasn't the greatest sister when we arrived. I kept wanting to be the BIG sister. Well, actually, I tried to be more like her mother. But those of you who know us well know that pretending to be her mother comes easy for me. As we grew up we were very close in our teenage years. So, I just had to accept the fact in a way that she was getting married. (Strange as that may sound). But, a few arguments paved the way for a beautiful few days of celebration. I love you, sis! I was so excited for her. Nick is such a great guy. They get along so well & make a great couple. Their kids are going to have the most gorgeous blue eyes ever!!!
Nick and Erica at the wedding dinner held the night before at the Lion House.
I promised Maddy I would post a picture of my $9.00 dress from Ross. I had to go shopping the week before the wedding as I realized I was going to need a maternity dress. And, to my surprise, Ross had something cute for only $8.99....it must have been meant to be. Since when do you ever find cute maternity clothes at ROSS?
One of the neatest things about Erica getting married was that I got to be her escort in the temple twice. What an honor. It was so wonderful to be there with her. Nick was so cute and kept trying to sneak looks at her the whole time! It was such a neat experience and a great evening. She went through the Bountiful Temple two days before the wedding. I was so glad I got to be there, thanks for including me, sis! Here we are right before heading up to the temple. Afterwards we went to Applebee's, the only restaurant still open in Bountiful after 9 p.m. on a weeknight. It was delicious. I have a very hungry critter inside of me. We gave Erica a bad time for ordering ASAP water. The waitor was like, what is that??
